Metal Braces Systems

A metal braces system is a fixed orthodontic appliance that is bonded to the enamel surface using a special adhesive.

Metal braces are used to treat the following issues:

• Bite anomalies
• Wide gaps between teeth — tremas and diastemas
• Crowded teeth in the dental arch
• Impacted or unerupted teeth — brace systems help "pull" them from the gum and position them in the dental arch
• Incorrect position or rotation of individual teeth
• Preparation for prosthetics or implantation when there is insufficient space in the dental arch for a new tooth

• Strength and reliability allow them to be used in any clinical situation, even with the most complex deformations
• They do not stain from food colorings

Types of Metal Braces

Ligating Braces

The classic type of braces in which the orthodontic arch is secured using ligatures — small elastics or thin wires. Scheduled visits for treatment with ligating brace systems are required more frequently — ligatures need to be changed on average once a month, as they stretch over time and cease to perform their function.

Self-Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces differ in how the arch is attached — it is secured in the body of the brackets using small locks similar to clip fasteners. Thanks to this feature, arch replacement happens quickly — it simply "snaps" into the slots, which reduces the duration of scheduled visits. Adjustment of self-ligating braces is required less frequently — approximately once every 6-8 weeks.

Vestibular Brace Systems

Vestibular systems are fixed to the front surface of the teeth. This is the most common type suitable for most patients. Such braces are easier to install and adjust, and they are also simpler to maintain compared to lingual systems.

Lingual Brace Systems

Lingual braces are fixed to the inner surface of the teeth, making them invisible when smiling or talking. This system is suitable for people who do not want to draw attention to their orthodontic treatment. Adaptation to lingual braces is more difficult than to vestibular ones — initially, they may irritate the tongue and can distort speech.
